Placemaking 10 ingredients

Placemaking 10 ingredients

My 10 ingredients for a successful creative placemaking project

  1. Fully research the area to capture the identity of the place
  2. Meet and talk with as many people as possible from the local community
  3. Use the whole space for activities and not just a central location
  4. Plan a collection of small events and activities instead of a big one
  5. Involve local community members as much as possible during the event
  6. Keep an element of surprise: if visitors enjoy the experience, they will be the best ambassadors
  7. Showcase a variety of things to do so that it can inspire the community to use the space
  8. If you add something original and unique, people will come only for that
  9. Take advantage of the mix of the old and the new to highlight the local heritage
  10. Insist on holding regular events during the year as one off event is not enough to create a sense of place
