My 10 ingredients for a successful creative placemaking project
- Fully research the area to capture the identity of the place
- Meet and talk with as many people as possible from the local community
- Use the whole space for activities and not just a central location
- Plan a collection of small events and activities instead of a big one
- Involve local community members as much as possible during the event
- Keep an element of surprise: if visitors enjoy the experience, they will be the best ambassadors
- Showcase a variety of things to do so that it can inspire the community to use the space
- If you add something original and unique, people will come only for that
- Take advantage of the mix of the old and the new to highlight the local heritage
- Insist on holding regular events during the year as one off event is not enough to create a sense of place
